What is Foundations31?

Based on Proverbs 31, 10-31, we focus on providing community for women, mothers, and entrepreneurs.

We are all figuring things out as we go. While we don’t have an exact rule book on how to get from Point A to Point B, we do have an incredible guide and resource to live the fullest and best lives possible. That’s God’s Word. At Foundations31, we cover a whole host of different topics from Christian living to everyday items like great household supplies.

Let’s do this thing called life — together.

How it All Started

When I became a mom…

This whole journey started when I became a mom. My husband and I had moved to a new area shortly beforehand, and we didn’t have many solid friends or community surrounding us. Most of my friends from out of state also didn’t have kids yet – I felt quite alone. After my daughter’s first birthday, I started diving into Proverbs 31.
I realized that God had given me a guide to parenting after-all. The Bible talks about so many different kinds of parenting moments.

It covers all the topics from rebellious kids to brilliant ones that are way ahead of their time.
I didn’t want to waste any more time in raising my daughter according to God’s will. I also wanted (and needed) the wisdom God had on parenting.
Fast forward to now. God has blessed me with an amazing community and people who can journey with me. I realize that I wanted to create a space where women could go and perhaps reach out to others to engage in community, even if it wasn’t readily available in their own town/city.

Stop Scrolling Through Parenthood

I don’t mean that in a judgmental way. I’m guilty of the “doom-scroll” more than anyone! However, it’s all too easy to search social media or the internet when we need advice on “how to get our baby to sleep” or “how to manage a baby and a work load” or all of the “colic hacks by chiropractors” that pop up in our news feeds. It so easy to turn to those quick fix solutions, before turning to The Bible.

Will the Bible tell you how to fix colic? Or how to get your newborn baby to sleep longer than 30 minutes at a time? No. I get that. But instead of frantically going to social media to see what “experts” say, or draining your bank account by buying all of the latest gadgets or remedies to fix it, what if we paused for a moment and prayed first. What if we asked God for wisdom first on how to handle the situation? What if we also had friends pray for that wisdom and guidance? To cut through the noise of all the marketing, social media, and stress and help us through whatever issue or struggle we were handling? To pray for wisdom on how to proceed, or the measures we should take to fixing XYZ? When I started doing this – I didn’t feel like I needed all the gadgets, the latest car seat with a sunshade, the toys that would lull my baby to sleep (that didn’t work). I didn’t need to try every type of gripe water, or swaddle, or paid sleep apps with real sleep therapists (it’s a thing). Instead, I felt a calmer and was able to handle the stressful moments with more clarity, and less frustration than before. It’s not that it eliminated the hard situations, but rather helped me through them.
